This thing is awesome! February 15, 2010 Aaron Barbee I fought with vise grips and then I bought a 32mm axle nut from Auto**** thinking I could get my oil filter cover off (2004 Saturn Vue). None of it worked. I was almost to the point that I was just going to have some quick lube place change the oil filter for me every other time the oil needed to be changed.
Then... I stumbled upon this awesome little socket designed specifcally for my GM 2.2L engine. I needed an 8 or 12-inch extension bar to properly reach the oil filter cover (and it hadn't been removed in a while so it needed some "elbow grease", too).
But, now I can change my Saturn's oil filter with ease and style!
Thank you!!!
Big metal low-profile oil filter socket December 14, 2009 food_guy (VA) It's a Big, metal, low-profile oil filter socket that my 2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T requires. Coupled with a 6 inch or longer extension, it's an easy job. Socket size is 1-1/4 inch (per markings) or roughly 32mm socket. LOW profile makes it easier to work with given the limited space above the oil filter cap. Fits 3/8 inch rachet sets.
Drove up on the Blitz Rhino Ramp 8000 (cheaper locally at pep boys) and was able to complete the oil change quickly.
Ecotec Filter Socket November 1, 2009 J. Hutchinson (Kingsport, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A must for changing oil filters in a Ecotec engine, the low profile socket makes the job much easier.
Great For Cobalts! September 5, 2009 Steven E. Mack (Seattle, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and getting to the oil filter was a PITA. With this filter wrench I'm able to access and filter and not have to worry about getting a wrench in the small area and possibly stripping the thread on the filter. VERY recommended for Ecotech/Cobalt owners!
Oil Change Socket July 30, 2009 John M. Ryan 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Searched Amazon.com for an oil filter for my HHR and found one for a very reasonable price and shipping arrangement as well along with this special socket..
Yes I would duplicate this order again.
The price beat all local prices on this item and all Internet Prices I searched so needless to say I made the purchase along with a few other items needed and related. The free shipping was included with the purchase of these additional items and this review will be cut and pasted to those items as they are reviewed along with one added piece of information on the special socket for the oil cap removal review.
This socket is made in the USA and designed especially for removing the oil filter cap on HHR Chevrolet 2.2 and 2.4 Ecotec 4 Cylinder engines and probably will work on many other applications as the same engine is used in Saturns and Cobalts as well as other General Motors Vehicles too.
It is necessary to clear the Intake Manifold and be able to fit the hex nut on the plastic top of the Oil Filter Housing Cap.
It is 3/8" drive and steel and will last a lifetime as it never touches metal during its use and is worth its weight in Gold when trying to do the job without it. Regular sockets don't fit on the HHR and there is no room for large wrenches which have to be 1 1/4" to fit the cap nut so often pliers are substituted and this can crack the plastic nut or cut it or even break it because pressure has to be applied to the pliers in order for it to grip the cap.
Do yourself a favor if you plan to service your own HHR etc. buy this socket and save time and accidents and possibly even engine damage due to oil leaks from a cracked oil filter housing cap.
This socket and a long 3/8" drive extension and a ratchet will be all you need for the filter removal and you won't be sorry you bought it, I know I am not.
As noted on the socket it is not meant for use with and impact wrench, hand wrench use only which is most commonly what you would be doing anyway in the first place for this procedure.
