Works Like a Champ! December 28, 2009 E. Mendez (McKinney, TX) This is a great tool for removing old oil filters. I've used this on a Honda Accord, Civic and CR-V. Even filters with textured exteriors can be a pain to remove if you get even a little oil on your hands when removing the oil drain plug. This tool works great. You attach it to a 3/8" socket and away you go. As you turn, it tightens the grip and removes the old filter with very little effort. I have nothing bad to say about this tool.
As for the review which stated you can't use this tool to tighten the oil filter, you don't use this tool to tighten the oil filter. An oil filter is hand tight plus 1/4 to 1/2 turn for a tight fit. A person with average strength should be able to tighten the filter without issue. If you need a tool to remove and tighten the filter, then this tool is not for you.
Excellent tool. October 6, 2009 Terry M. (Seattle, WA United States) Having gotten very frustrated with trying to use the cheap tools available in the local auto parts stores, I purchased this wrench. It works great! The harder you twist it, the tighter it grips the filter. So far, it has removed every filter without crushing the filter.
The only complaint is that the size range of filters that this will fit is limited. You will have to buy at least two sizes of this tool to handle common oil filters.
Forget the strap wrenches April 20, 2009 H. Ho This little tool will be the most versatile oil filter wrench you can own. Only bettered by its larger counterpart (depending on what vehicles you frequently work on), it proves to be a wonderful oil change companion. The only reason why I only gave it 4/5 stars is that my local Autozone had a similar product for about half the cost on Amazon.
Pro's:
-Allows easy reach for vertical AND horizontally placed oil filters
-A simple ratchet and extension bar is all you need for MANY vehicles
-Easier to work with than a strap-stile filter wrench
Con's:
-A tad pricy
Works On Subaru Impreza January 9, 2009 Scott N. Taylor (Fairbanks, Alaska United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The wrench worked perfectly on my 2008 Subaru Impreza, which has a very difficult to reach oil filter that is not sized to match the existing cup type wrenches on the market. Well made and sturdy. A great deal for the price. Too bad the shipping was so expensive!
Works as advertised August 30, 2008 Thom17043 (Lemoyne, PA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Doing my own oil changes for the past thirty years or more, I started out using the typical metal band wrench and that served me well for years. As things got more crowded underhood, though, that became more and more difficult to fit in there and then still have enough room to turn it. I tried those "cup" wrenches which grip the end of the filter and those work well, but you end up with a mess of them because it seems like every vehicle you work on has a different diameter oil filter.
On a recommendation, I tried the Lisle model out. Like the "cup" wrenches, it grabs the end of the filter so it is usually pretty easy to get the wrench, extension, and a socket handle in to it. I have this one and the wide range model and those two cover everything I own in two models instead of a half dozen of the cup wrenches.
