Missrepresented February 28, 2010 Willem Van Hulzen (Camarillo Ca. USA) The product packaging says submersable but the warning brochure inside says water resistant, truly a contradiction.
It is waterproof but not good in cold weather February 21, 2010 Heraclitus (Livonia, MI United States) The Rain-X bag is made of very heavy vinyl. Very waterproof. Good choice for warm weather travel. Not a good choice for cold weather.
Unfortunately, I bought it to travel to Chicago in December. The bag becomes so stiff in the cold that it is unusable. The tabs (handles) on the zippers are thin and bent under the pressure and will likely break after a couple of trips. I added shoelaces to the zippers to use in place of the handles. The straps are sewn into the vinyl and one tore out when I applied too much pressure.
Buy this if you need waterproof travel. Don't buy this if you expect to be able to use it in the snow.
Great Car Top Bag January 8, 2010 T2 Worked great for a 3000 mile trip. Zipper is a little tight at the corners, but mostly due to the stiffness and durability of the material. Very Satisfied.
Nice product, good value January 3, 2010 Holly V. Reese (Virginia) My husband and I have used this cargo bag twice. Once was on the interstate when it was pouring rain during a 9-hour trip. The other time, I traveled alone and it rained for an hour or two during the drive. In both cases, everything in the bag stayed dry. It holds a reasonable amount of stuff, though it is of course not the biggest carrier you can buy. For light use, it seems sturdy. The price (around $40) was particularly reasonable for people like us, who will use the bag only about once or maybe twice a year. This bag is nice, because you don't need to devote much storage space to it, like you would with a hard case carrier.
We noticed it is necessary to secure all the ends of the straps, so that loose straps don't make a flapping noise while you drive.
Down sides: As other reviewers have said, the zipper is kind of stiff and awkward. My only other complaint is that it is hard to fold up when you are done using it. There is a small bag for storage, but it is difficult to fold the stiff cargo bag tightly enough to get it back in the storage bag. If the storage bag were just a bit bigger, it might be easier to manage.
Completely waterproof December 4, 2009 H. Alarcon (Ann Arbor, Michigan) We drove to/from Florida with our family. Unable to fit as much into the bag as we thought, zipper was a little tough, but definitely not as bad as some of the other reviews. It rained most of the way back and everything was completely dry. Well worth the money.
